Maria, Selena & Sofia
Maria was fourteen, pregnant, and forced into prostitution by her drug-addicted mother, Sofia.
Longing for a relationship with her mother, Maria did everything she could to make Sofia see that she was worthy of her love, even things she vowed never to do. But when her younger sister, Selena, comes to live with them, she begins to fall into the same trap of performative love. Will the cost of earning their mother’s love be too expensive? Is Maria willing to risk everything for her mother's love, even her baby sister?
Sofia was living a luxurious life until her fiancée was arrested, leaving her homeless and penniless overnight. She doesn’t know what to do with children to care for and soon finds comfort in alcohol, drugs, and prostitution. Paying for her habit was an issue until she found a new supply in her daughters. How much is she willing to sacrifice for her next high? Is she too far gone for redemption?
In this heart wrenching story loosely based on real-life events, Author Terryann takes you on a rollercoaster ride with this mother and daughter-trio, turning their American dream into a living nightmare. What Readers Are Saying
Here's what my readers are saying about my book!
Dawn
This was a great sad tale of some very true-life situations that kept me riveted on what would happen next. Unfortunately, these type situations really do occur. Cycles start unbeknownst to a lot of people, and many become uncouth in their daily lives. Hurt people, hurt people to get their own satisfaction even though they know what they're doing. I feel like the grandmother could've done a much better job with the grandchildren seeing how she failed her only child when confronted with her woes. Thankfully the ending brought closure to many a soul.
Norma
Omg, I couldn’t put this book down. I highly recommend. I would get so mad at Sofia for the way she was towards her children. However, I won't give out any spoilers. One of my favorite books by far.
Wynndolyn
I love how she turned her worst to her best through believing in God without him nothing is possible. This was a good read!

This story broke my heart with reality and challenged me to be more. Terryann takes us into a world that is uncomfortable to witness and yet familiar to those of us who have been through trauma. Based on a true story, you'll find yourself deeply involved with these characters, rooting for their successes, and hurting when life comes at them fast. And yet there is more to this than presenting reality. My Mama Was My Pimp also reminds us that no matter where we begin in life, we can take back control and define where we end.
Meet Terryann
Terryann was born in Jamaica and migrated to the United States at the age of six. Her books are based on real experiences. Watching life play out in front of her soon made her realize people living in the struggle are much more complex than those who never see the seedier parts of the world may believe. And so, Terryann decided to pick up her pen and tell the stories of these multi-dimensional people the right way, highlighting their complexities, their hearts, and how they react to the pressures of life.
One of her primary missions is to bring light to things others shy away from. Things such as domestic violence, drug abuse, and prostitution that most like to sweep under the rug are highlighted in her work. In her mind, we do a disservice to the people living in those situations and never allow healing to occur if we refuse to give attention to their reality.
